ABOUT THIS PROJECT This game is a personal project created simply because I was bored and wanted to revisit the nostalgia of playing Fruit Ninja from my childhood. I decided to rebuild the experience from scratch, adapting it into an audio-based format to see how it would translate. This is not an official product, nor is it a fan-club tribute; it is just a coding experiment made for fun and nostalgia.
IMPORTANT LEGAL DISCLAIMER This application is strictly a non-profit, personal project. It is created for educational and entertainment purposes only. No revenue is generated from this game, and it will remain free forever. All original concepts, sound effects, and musical compositions associated with the "Fruit Ninja" are the property of their respective owners (Halfbrick Studios). If you are a copyright holder, please understand that this is a harmless adaptation made by an independent developer for the visually impaired community and nostalgia seekers.
AUDIO MECHANICS Since this is an audio game, wearing stereo headphones is absolutely mandatory. The game world is represented by a stereo sound field. When a fruit spawns, you will hear its position move from left to right or right to left. The pitch (tone) of the sound indicates the height of the fruit. A higher pitch means the fruit is high in the air, while a lower pitch means it is falling. Your goal is to move your aim to the location of the sound and slice at the right moment.
GETTING STARTED When you first open the game, you may be asked to enter a player name. This name is used for the online leaderboards and to save your local progress. Once your profile is set, you will land on the Main Menu. Navigate through the menu options using the Up and Down arrow keys, and select an option by pressing Enter.
GAME MODES There are three distinct ways to play the game, each offering a different challenge:
Classic Mode is the original experience. You start with three lives. Your objective is to slice every fruit that appears on the screen. If you let a fruit fall without slicing it, you lose a life. Occasionally, bombs will be thrown into the mix. If you accidentally slice a bomb, it is an instant Game Over. As your score increases, the game will become faster and more difficult.
Arcade Mode is a race against the clock. You have 60 seconds to slice as much as possible. There are no lives to lose, so missing a fruit does not end the game. However, slicing a bomb will deduct 10 points from your score and break your current combo. In this mode, you will encounter special Bananas that grant power-ups: Double Points (scores are doubled for a short time), Freeze (slows down time and fruit speed), and Frenzy (fruits spawn rapidly from both sides).
Zen Mode is the most relaxed way to play. You have 90 seconds. There are no bombs, no lives, and no punishments for missing fruit. It is purely about slicing and building combos to achieve a high score in a stress-free environment.
CONTROLS The control scheme is designed to be simple but requires precision. Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow keys to move your virtual blade across the screen. You will hear a sound indicating your current position. Press the Spacebar or Enter key to execute a slice at your current position. If you want to quickly snap your aim to specific areas, the Left Arrow generally moves you towards negative coordinates (left side), and the Right Arrow towards positive coordinates (right side).
During gameplay, you can adjust the music volume independently of the sound effects. Press F1 to increase the music volume and F3 to decrease it. If you need to take a break, press the Escape key to pause the game. In the pause menu, you can choose to resume or quit to the main menu. Pressing Escape while in the Main Menu will close the game.
ADVANCED GAMEPLAY AND SCORING Slicing a single fruit gives you 1 point. However, the real way to get high scores is through Critical Hits and Combos. A Critical Hit occurs randomly based on the blade you have equipped and awards 10 points instantly. A Combo is achieved by slicing 3 or more fruits in a single swing. Combos award significantly more points and are essential for Arcade mode.
Be careful of Special Objects. Aside from the standard fruits, you might hear a Pomegranate (a multi-hit fruit that you can slice repeatedly for extra points) or a Dragon Fruit (a rare fruit worth 50 points). Conversely, avoid the Rotten Fruit; slicing it will reduce your score and break your combo streak.
PROGRESSION AND UNLOCKS The game features a progression system. As you play, you will accumulate total fruits sliced, total critical hits, and games played. These statistics are saved automatically. You can view your lifetime stats in the Statistics menu.
By hitting certain milestones, you will unlock new Blades and Backgrounds in the Equip Menu. For example, the Bamboo Blade makes your slicing range wider, while the Dragon Blade increases your chance of getting Critical Hits. Changing the Background (Dojo) changes the ambient atmosphere sounds of the game.
ONLINE LEADERBOARD The game connects to a simple server to track high scores. If you achieve a new personal best in any mode, you will be prompted to submit your score at the Game Over screen. You can view the top 20 global scores from the Main Menu by selecting the Global Leaderboard option. This requires an active internet connection.
Daily Missions are also available to provide small goals each day, such as slicing a certain number of fruits or achieving a specific number of combos. Completing these missions grants bonus points.
Enjoy the nostalgia.
